What are the trip styles?
Three: a Crab Island sandbar day, a nearshore fishing trip, or a "best of both" charter that combines the two. Crab Island can run on a pontoon, the Boca, or the Whiskey; fishing and combo trips run on the Boca or the Whiskey.
What’s the difference between the boats?
Our pontoons are sandbar day boats out of Fort Walton Beach. The Boca is a more affordable fishing and Crab Island boat out of Destin Harbor. The Whiskey is our premium option out of Sandestin. Fishing and combo trips are capped at six aboard.
Is the whole boat just for my group?
Yes. Every trip is private — your boat, your crew, and only the people you booked with. Never a shared tour.
Who runs the boat — a captain or an operator?
It depends on the boat. Six-passenger boats like the Boca run with a USCG-licensed captain. Larger boats that carry more than six guests — our pontoons (up to 9) and the Whiskey (up to 12) — run with an experienced operator hired on the dock rather than a USCG-licensed captain. Either way, someone experienced is at the helm the whole time.
What's included on a Crab Island trip?
Your private captain or experienced operator (depending on the boat), a floating lily pad and paddleboards, a Bluetooth speaker, cooler and ice, on-board shade, and life jackets in every size. You bring towels, sunscreen, food and drinks.
What's included on a fishing trip?
Your captain or experienced operator plus a mate, rods, reels, bait, tackle, ice, and fishing licenses for everyone aboard, plus catch cleaning and bagging. Bring drinks, food, and a cooler for your fillets.
How many people can come?
It depends on the boat and the trip. Any fishing trip is capped at 6. For Crab Island, the Whiskey takes up to 12, a pontoon up to 9, and the Boca up to 6.
Where do we meet?
It depends on your boat: pontoons leave from Fort Walton Beach, the Boca from Destin Harbor, and the Whiskey from Sandestin. Your exact dock and meeting time are confirmed when you book.
Are kids and non-swimmers welcome?
Yes. The Crab Island sandbar is shallow and calm, which suits little ones and non-swimmers, and we carry life jackets for all ages. Fishing trips work well for kids too — the mate keeps them on the fish.
What if the weather turns?
Safety comes first. If conditions are unsafe we will help you reschedule or refund per our cancellation policy. Most Gulf Coast showers pass quickly, and the person at the helm will keep you posted.
What can we bring on a Crab Island trip?
Bring your own food, drinks and snacks. There are all sorts of vendors out on the island selling food and refreshments, but alcohol is not sold, so if you want it, pack your own — guests 21+ are welcome to bring alcohol (go with cans or plastic rather than glass). It is always a good idea to bring ice, since ice is not included on the pontoons. We provide the cooler, plus a floating lily pad, paddleboards, shade and life jackets. Towels, sunscreen and a waterproof phone case are smart to have too.
